Bearded dragons are lizards that originated from Australia and all over the immensity of this continent, which many species of this animal exist. In the country, there are about eight species available and six are of them are common household pets. This lizard has a wedge-shaped head, which looks larger than their body. Most bearded dragons are known as Central bearded dragons.

• They belong to the genus Pogona and Agamidea family.
• Bearded dragons are commonly found in desserts and arid woodlands.
• Bearded dragon life expectancy is from 7 to 10 years.
• They are cold blooded animals, so the temperature of their body changes, which depends largely on their surroundings.
• They have inadequate ability to change colors. Their softer colors usually reflect on sunlight, which helps them regulate their body temperature.
• When they feel attacked, threatened or just want to establish territory, they will flex their muscles from their throaty region, which makes the flaring of the beard as well as they appear larger. This is a defense mechanism.
• They occasionally run their hind legs to escape from their marauder. Even if it is slower than four legs, it basically helps them to regulate temperature of the body by lifting their body off the ground that is hot and increasing the distance too.
• If they are not in captivity, young ones love to spend their time in trees, which makes them expert climbers when they are already adult.

Bearded Dragon Facts on their Habitat

It is very simple to provide them with an adequate habitat. You have so many choices when it comes to setting up your aquarium.  You can use newspaper as substrate as well as other types of digestible substrate.  You can also use carpets or Astroturf as substrate. Do not use potting soil laced with insecticides or fertilizers, potting and pine shavings, wood shavings or gravel.

60 gallon aquarium for adult bearded dragon is adequate and 20 gallon aquarium for hatchlings would be nice. Do not try to use wire cages as their habitat.  They do not trap the heat and may increase the possibility of having injury to their mouth or feet.

As they are cold blooded animals, make sure that it has steady temperature, which could be provided by putting a light or heat source. If you wish to put it indoor be sure to put a ultra-violet source of light, which is ideal for their health. This is important because heat promotes overall health and proper digestion. They may develop illness or sickness if they are not heated successfully. This plays an ideal role for their overall health, so that they can have a longer lifespan.
