When they are in captivity, bearded dragon feed on insects like silkworms, crickets and  green leafy vegetables. Young bearded dragon requires more insects as they have a greater need for nutrition to help them grow and to keep them healthy.

Requirements of Bearded Dragon Habitat –  Setup at Home

To set up a bearded dragon habitat at home, you can use aquariums as their primary shelter. The size of their habitat plays a very important role if you want to keep around a long time as your pet. If you have an adult bearded dragon, it will require a 50-60 gallon aquarium. 10-15 gallon aquarium is ideal for young bearded dragons. You can use brown paper, indoor carpet or newspapers as substrate for them. Do not use soil, which may contain fertilizers or pesticides. It would also be nice if you can add a hiding place for them to hide.

Bearded dragon needs heat for appropriate digestion of food, so it will require you to install a supplemental supply of heat. This could be provided by using readily available habitat accessories such as infrared heat emitters, heating pad and incandescent lights. They also require temperature that may reach up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit for their basking purposes. Heat plays an important role for their entire health.
